Burroughs has extensive experience in the water and utilities sector with our Team delivering a wide variety of both public and private sector projects. We are a Framework Consultant for the Local Water Authority providing design and advisory services through the whole of the industry.  This extends from high-level conceptual analysis and strategic planning to the detailed design of complex drainage and potable water projects.

In addition, Burroughs has significant experience in other utility sectors including Civil / Structural G17 Approver / Appraiser work for the gas industry, the wide area coordination and rationalisation of utilities for brownfield development sites to enable future development and development appraisals.

We have a thorough understanding of the industry design guidance and the confidence to challenge standard scenarios in order to provide bespoke solutions where beneficial to client organisations.

Bro Tathan Economic Development Programme

In early 2019 Burroughs were appointed by the Welsh Government to provide Programme, Project and Cost Management and Civil and Structural Engineering support for the development of Bro Tathan. Bro Tathan forms part of the Cardiff Airport and St Athan Economic Zone which has been earmarked for significant investment and development.

The Developer Services Team at Dwr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW) required the installation of a foul sewer requisition to serve a multi-phased housing development at Genwen Farm in Bynea, Llanelli. Burroughs provided Drainage Design, Principal Designer, NEC Supervisor and Project and Contract Administration services for the scheme.

DSFRS

Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) identified the need to review and remediate the drainage systems at all of its fire stations in order to comply with current water authority regulations. To tackle this significant task DSFRS appointed Burroughs following open (OJEU) tender, as the consultancy for the project. Burroughs were to provide Design, Project Management, Cost Management and Contract Administration services.

Waste Water Testing and Inspection

Burroughs have been working with South West Water on a number of sewerage and potable water schemes throughout their operational region. Schemes have ranged from a large diameter water main serving a large new residential development within Plymstock Quarry to foul water sewer networks serving proposed developments in Newquay, Swanvale, Camborne and St Eval.

Southend Airport Stand Drainage

Burroughs have been engaged on behalf of Southend Airport to review their existing drainage infrastructure, installed under a D&B contract, in terms of discharge quality compliance and management of Glycol de-icing fluids. The project comprised the detailed assessment of contributing drained areas, active Glycol operations, system surveying and review of operational procedures. There was a concern regarding the potential of accidental discharge of de-icing contaminated surface water to SSSI rated receiving water courses, that the Client wished to pro-actively address.

Coleg Gwent, Usk Farm

To ensure Usk Farm is within the standards set within the Regulations, significant upgrading and remediation of the existing surface water and combined sewer drainage network was required. I.R.I.S

The Integration and Recycling of the Island’s Sewage is a scheme to modernise the collection, transfer and treatment of domestic and industrial sewage from all over the Isle of Man.
