NGED Primary Substation Siting Study

PROJECT SCOPE

Burroughs collaborated with National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) to undertake a siting study for the installation of a new primary substation within their South Wales region. The new primary substation will help manage increased electrical demand in the area facilitating economic growth and allowing for decarbonisation within the area.

Our scope included screening a search area to identify potential substation locations before undertaking a detailed feasibility study for each possible site. The substation siting study provided NGED with a comprehensive analysis that assessed the potential locations for varying factors such as planning context, flood risk, accessibility, environmental impact, heritage considerations, visual impact and grid connectivity.

The outcome of the report identified a number of suitable sites to allow NGED to take forward for potential development.
