NMW Big Pit Fan House

PROJECT SCOPE

Burroughs are the Structural Engineering Lead for the Big Pit Fan House project, commissioned to investigate and address air permeability issues within the current fan house to ensure effective ventilation of the underground area.

Upon inspection, we determined that significant wear and tear has compromised the current fan house, rendering the fans ineffective in ventilating the underground area and dispersing gas. Merely replacing the fans will not provide an effective solution as long as air permeability remains compromised, leading to the release of gas during low-pressure periods and potentially impacting underground tours.

Currently, Burroughs is tasked with designing and procuring an alternative fan house structure and housing for ventilation equipment. Our focus is on balancing the facility’s needs with significant site constraints, ensuring compatibility with the UNESCO designated world heritage site.
