St Brides Major Primary School

PROJECT SCOPE

Burroughs is providing civil and structural engineering services for an extension to St Brides Major Primary School. Our involvement began at RIBA stage 3, allowing us to collaborate closely with the client in designing a single-story steel frame extension that is in keeping with previous developments while serving as a focal point for the school.

Our services included scoping ground investigation works and drainage surveys to gather essential information for progressing our design. We led an iterative design process to optimise the phasing of works, ultimately determining that demolishing the existing hall as initially planned would pose buildability challenges. Instead, we developed a design that seamlessly integrates the new structure with the existing hall.

Our team conducted a thorough dimensional survey of the existing hall, focusing on the roof trusses to ensure that the truss design would transfer the loading from the existing roof to the new structure. We also prepared the drainage design, to provide a suitable and minimal system to service the extended hall and increased roof area.
