Our relationship with Planet Mark plays a pivotal role in placing sustainability at the heart of what we do. Certifying our past carbon footprint, guiding our social value contribution, and aligning our work with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, it serves as our guiding compass for ongoing progress and improvement.
Our Sustainability Goals represent our commitment to real, measurable actions, continuous improvement, and positive impact. With data-driven objectives and measurable targets, we measure our contribution to carbon reduction, biodiversity and energy efficiency across our projects.
Testing our designs against these Goals helps us shape infrastructure that supports vibrant communities, without compromising the environment — an achievement we are proud of.

Carbon Reduction Plan - Commitment to achieving Net Zero
Burroughs is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040. Burroughs commit to work towards and achieve their yearly reduction targets in line with the Planet Mark accreditation process and achieve targets in line with their wider goal to reach Net Zero, as verified by SBTI’s Net Zero standards.
Burroughs commit to working alongside PlanetMark to help integrate effective sustainable processes throughout the business as well improve awareness with employees and stakeholders. Burroughs will continue to identify and reduce environmental impacts from their offices and employees, most notably in relation to waste, resource consumption, office emissions and business travel. Burroughs will implement systems to provide management structure, compliance, and governance to ensure they deliver their commitments (Notably PAS2080:2016 and ISO 14001:2015) and will engage with staff and clients regarding sustainable design to ensure it is considered throughout all stages of each project.

JOURNEY TO NET ZERO
We are committed to real reductions – aiming to half carbon emissions from our operational activities by 2030 and achieve Net Zero emissions by 2040.
Our comprehensive Net Zero Roadmap sets out how we will achieve this, focusing on the reduction of carbon across all scopes and the integration of whole lifecycle carbon assessments for every project we undertake.
Currently on a 5% annual reduction pathway, our dedication is underscored by our active participation in continuing our engagement and certification through Planet Mark, and the UK Civil Engineers Declare Climate & Biodiversity Emergency.
At Burroughs, our sustainability efforts are not just a reflection of our values but a testament to our dedication to a more sustainable and resilient future.
