Newport Station Footbridge

PROJECT SCOPE

A high-profile D&B commission, involving the construction of a new pedestrian bridge of the mainline at Newport Station. Working of the Main Contractor, Burroughs were responsible for securing the SAB and detailed SuDS design for the land-locked urban site.

Burroughs were appointed by Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd as a key design partner for a new pedestrian and cycle footbridge spanning the Great Western Mainline Railway, platforms and station on behalf of Newport City Council. Tasked with intricate drainage designs, we collaborated with other designers to create town-centre sensitive, sustainable and integrated solution.

This project, part of an active travel strategy, replaces an outdated subway, providing an accessible route across Newport Train Station. The project enhances local connectivity, promotes active travel, and addresses urban challenges related to air quality, pollution, climate change, fear of crime and physical activity.

This project is an excellent example of Burroughs’ ability to navigate complex design challenges and contribute significantly to the urban landscape.
