Bryngwyn Gateway Construction

PROJECT SCOPE

Burroughs were commissioned by Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW) for the lead design consultant for the diversion/renewal of over 3km critical trunk main running through the small rural village of Trapp.

The existing trunk main, identified as a high-priority project by DCWW, exhibited issues such as steel pipe degradation and biofilm growth, leading to concerns about water quality. The trunk main replacement involved transitioning from a 16in steel main to 450mm HPPE with differing pressure ratings. Given the significant constraints of the narrow rural road housing the main and the ecological environmental setting, it was imperative to sensitively reroute the trunk main through adjacent land, spanning rural agricultural landscapes whilst also capitalising on the natural topography to provide a hydraulically efficient design.

This project exemplifies Burroughs’ expertise in overcoming complex challenges, ensuring the successful diversion of a critical trunk main with a focus on sustainability, regulatory compliance, and community impact mitigation.
