Burroughs are currently supporting Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW) in protecting their existing brick egg sewer assets at Callaghan Square, in response to the proposed tram line construction as part of wider infrastructure development works in the area.
The first stage of the scheme involved identifying which sewer assets would be affected by the tram line and determining the most suitable protection measures.
Following this assessment, it was decided that a structural liner should be installed to enhance the strength and durability of the brick egg sewers. Burroughs procured the CCTV and lining contractors to assess the current condition of the affected sewers and determine the most appropriate structural liner for installation.
Burroughs managed the survey works and compiled a detailed report confirming the survey findings and making the final recommendations to DCWW on how best to proceed to protect their assets in light of the proposed developments.
During the survey works, Burroughs also identified that an existing manhole on one of the sewers is located within the footprint of the proposed tram line. This was not shown on any existing asset drawings and was not visible during initial site visits. Additional design work is now underway to cap the existing manhole and relocate it outside the tram line boundary to enhance the protection of the DCWW assets in the area.
