HeliOperations Airport Refurbishment

PROJECT SCOPE

Burroughs were appointed by HeliOperations, based in Dorset at Portland, to undertake a comprehensive project involving the detailed design and refurbishment of an existing Royal Navy Air Station and transitioning it to a new CAA-licensed heliport – the fifth licensed heliport in the UK.

Key design designs included the spatial layout and coordination of the airfield lighting, FATO and TLOF. Burroughs’ role involved stakeholder liaison with Dewhurst Airfield Services to ensure the civil engineering design was considerate of the buildability of the lighting aspects of the scheme. Burroughs led the procurement of a civil engineering contractor, Thomas Bow, to deliver the works. Throughout the construction phase, Burroughs provided site supervision and contract administration services.

This project had to adhere to stringent Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations. Using our specialist aviation knowledge, and in close collaboration with Osprey a specialist aviation consultant, Burroughs achieved successful outcomes, delivering a right-first-time project. The heliport now serves with multiple functions, including use as a training facility, a stopover facility for refuelling, and a centre for helicopter repairs and sales.

This project highlights our adaptability, technical expertise, and commitment to ensuring our clients’ projects meet the highest standards in the industry.
